El sistema de apoyo formal para los adultos mayores en el municipio Camagüey System of formal support to the elderly in Camagüey municipality

Resumen

El artículo se basa en un estudio realizado en el municipio de Camagüey, con el objetivo de identificar los elementos que pudieran estar caracterizando los sistemas de apoyos de los adultos mayores. Se encuestó a un total de 200 sujetos, de ellos, 100 incorporados a Casas de Abuelos, 50 a los Círculos de Abuelos y otros 50 a la Universidad del Adulto Mayor. Los resultados obtenidos permiten afirmar que en el sistema de apoyo formal se
evidencia una feminización, pues la mayoría de sus integrantes son mujeres, y se muestra que, aunque se transmiten todos los apoyos estudiados, las principales transferencias que participan en el intercambio son las cognitivas, emocionales e instrumentales, es decir, las relacionadas con el cuidado y compañía.

Abstract
The study performed in Camagüey municipality aimed at identifying those elements
that might be characterizing the system of support to the elderly. A poll was carried out in a group of 200 individuals, out of which 100 were incorporated to Casa de Abuelos (part-time home for the elderly), 50 to Círculos de Abuelos (sports and recreation for the elderly groups), and 50 to Universidad del Adulto Mayor (university for the elderly). Results achieved allow to state that there is a female majority within the system of formal support, for most of their members are women; on the other hand, though all studied supports are transmitted, the main transferences participating in the exchange are the cognitive, emotional and instrumental ones, i.e., those related with care and company.
