Resumen

El nivel de la fecundidad cubana, inferior al de
reemplazo durante casi 40 años, ha sido determinante
en el cambio de la estructura por edades
de la población. Su comportamiento está interconectado
con diversos factores que implican las
decisiones individuales en torno a la reproducción.
Ambos temas constituyen objetos de relevancia
social para la ciencia.
De ahí se propone el objetivo general del estudio:
Caracterizar la fecundidad cubana en el periodo
2002-2012 y su interrelación con el proceso de
toma de decisiones individuales en torno a la reproducción
en hombres y mujeres. Para ello se empleó
una metodología mixta que integró el análisis
demográfico de la fecundidad, con el estudio de
casos diversos. Se seleccionó un municipio como
unidad de la división político-administrativa más
cercana al espacio-territorio en que las personas
adoptan decisiones en la vida cotidiana.
El comportamiento de la fecundidad cubana
y de sus regiones entre 2002-2012 muestra las
múltiples interrelaciones entre las políticas sociales
y sectoriales con la persistencia de patrones culturales
patriarcales y de condiciones socioeconómicas
que mantienen y diversifican las tensiones
alrededor de la función económica familiar e inciden
en la organización de otras instituciones. Estos
elementos confluyen de manera heterogénea en
virtud de la articulación de los sistemas de diferenciación
social con la subjetividad de los individuos,
las posibilidades de acceder al mercado
del emparejamiento y generar estrategias que les
permitan ejercer el control en sus decisiones reproductivas.

Abstract
The level of Cuban fertility, below the replacement
for nearly 40 years, has been determining in the change
in the population age structure. Their behavior is
interconnected with various factors involving the individual
decisions about reproduction. Both subjects
are objects of social relevance to science.
Hence the general objective of the study is proposed:
characterize the Cuban fertility in the period
2002-2012 and its interrelation with the process of
individual decisions about reproduction in men and
women. It used a mixed methodology that incorporated the demographic analysis of fertility, with the
study of various cases. We selected a municipality as
a unit of the division political administrative closest
to the space-territory in which people make decisions
in everyday life.
The behavior of Cuban fertility and its regions
between 2002-2012, shows multiple interrelations
between social and sectorial policies with the persistence
of patriarchal cultural patterns and socioeconomic
conditions that maintain and diversify the
tensions around the familiar economic function and
influence in the organization of other institutions.
These elements converge heterogeneously distributed
under the articulation of the systems of social differentiation
with the subjectivity of the individuals,
the possibilities of access to the market of the pairing
and generate strategies that enable them to exercise
control in their reproductive decisions.
